The Sunflower class has been busy this week studying and exploring birds. Our week started with a visit from Gabby from The Art Farm in the City. She brought a few different types of birds, including a macaw and a dove. The Sunflowers showed an interest in the birds and had a lot of questions, such as, "Where do birds live?" and "What do birds eat?". The Sunflower class spent the week moving their bodies like birds, exploring bird seed, building bird nests with different materials, reading stories, and even went bird watching outside! The class made binoculars to get a closer look and spotted a lot of pigeons and sparrows outside while walking to the park. Below is a list of the birds we have learned about this week: Pigeon Seagull Macaw Sparrow Eagle Dove Chicken Ask your child what his or her favorite bird is! The Sunflowers noticed that birds can look very different from one another. We learned that some birds have short beaks and others have long beaks! Stay tuned as the Sunflower class continues their bird exploration!

For the past week, the Sunflowers have been excitedly preparing for our special feast. The students used their creativity to help make a banner for the classroom, painted place-mats, and created gourd centerpieces. The class wanted to make a contribution to the feast and decided to make mashed potatoes! During small group, we brainstormed the ingredients needed and where we could buy them. With great excitement, we put on our coats and took a trip to the supermarket. When we arrived, we picked out the perfect potatoes and located the milk, butter, and salt. After paying for the items, the Sunflowers proudly carried their bags back to school. After the potatoes were boiled the next day, we mashed the potatoes with hammers, and mixed the ingredients together until the final product was complete. They were delicious! The class also made a special book called "There Were Some Sunflowers That Swallowed A Feast." We hope you enjoy reading your copy at home during your Thanksgiving Break! It was so fun to have all of our visitors in our classroom sharing a meal together. We are grateful to have such a supportive and warm classroom community. The Sunflower class enjoyed a special visit from Gabby from The Art Farm in the City. Gabby brought three lizards named Luna, Rosie, and Frank. The class explored pretend lizards and learned where lizards live, what they eat, and what they like to do. Frank, who is a Chuckwalla lizard, enjoys hiding under the sand and eating only fruits and vegetables! The Sunflowers enjoyed touching the lizards spikey and scaly backs and learning about their desert life! Ask your child how the lizard felt! The Sunflower class was very excited to begin Book Buddies with The Bean Sprout class! The Sunflowers shared their favorite books, showed them their classroom, and even got to run on the roof with their book buddy. The teachers from both classrooms were super excited to see how much fun the two classes had together. Ask your child what their book buddy's name is! The Sunflower class was very excited for their special visitors to visit the classroom today. In the morning, the class decorated and colored a welcome banner using different art materials. Then, the class enjoyed decorating picture frames with their special visitors, singing songs, and showing them around the classroom. It was a fun filled Friday! The Sunflower Class dove into the new school year exploring different plants and flowers. We first explored the different parts of a flower, sorted different kinds of seeds, planted seeds in soil, and learned what plants need to grow. The class then voted which flower they wanted to be their class name and THE SUNFLOWERS won with excitement. The class worked together and used different art materials to make the sun, grass, and sunflowers for our bulletin board. Ask your child what sunflowers need to grow! |
